Our Education Programs have been designed with teachers and their students in mind, and there are several different options offered for school groups at the Curtiss Museum. The Museum currently offers guided visits, which includes a tour and curriculum based, hands-on programs, and self-guided visits.

Guided Visits
The Museum offers interactive, activity-based tours that utilize the museum’s collection of early aircraft and motorcycles, which illustrate the innovative genius of Glenn H. Curtiss. The museum encourages classroom teachers to collaborate with the Museum’s Education Department in the development of special focus tours. Tours are typically 25-45 minutes, depending on the age level.

Curriculum Based School Programs
Along with the guided tour, the museum currently offers interactive, activity-based programs that utilize the museum’s collection of early aircrafts and motorcycles, which illustrate the creative genius of Glenn H. Curtiss. These programs are appropriate for all age levels, facilitate learning outside of the classroom, align with child development benchmarks, and follow NYS Learning Standards.

These programs can be customized to apply to all age levels. Depending on age, group size, and time allotted, programs can range from 45-90 minutes.

Participation in these programs also includes:

  • Teacher packet, including an in-depth guide to the program that will be delivered via email upon signing up for a program.
  • Interactive, age-appropriate, docent-led tour of the museum’s collection
  • A hands-on activity that furthers their educational experience.
  • A visit to the Museum’s restoration shop (based on time and availability)

Group Fee: $5 per student; teachers and bus drivers are complimentary. Any additional chaperones are $9 per person.

Please Arrange 1 chaperone for every 7 students.

For more information, contact the Museum’s Education Department at (607) 569-7058 or education@curtissmuseum.org.

Self-Guided Visits
Educators who would like to lead their own tours through the museum space must schedule a self-guided tour with the Education Department by phone or email. This allows us to prepare for the group and to assure access to all Museum exhibition spaces, including the Restoration Shop. Please make reservations for self-guided visits at least two weeks in advance.

Group Fee: $5 per student; teachers and bus drivers are complimentary. Any additional chaperones are $9 per person.

Lunch Facilities
The museum does not provide lunch to groups. However, tables and chairs can be set up in the museum space upon request. The Museum’s grounds are also available for lunch, weather permitting.

The Museum Store
Students are welcome to visit the Museum Shop following the program, if time permits. Please notify the Education Department in advance if your students would like to include this option.
